Children's Contact Lenses

Contact Lenses for Children

For some Children, Contact Lenses offer the best optical correction for various sports e.g gymnastics.

Contact lenses allow children to be "spectacle-free" for their more active past-times.

Traditionally we usually start to think about contact lenses as an option for older children and teenagers, but contact lenses are generally comfortable and well tolerated and therefore should a parent feel that their younger child would benefit from contact lens correction then we can certainly consider it.

If a child only wants to wear their lenses for sport then we could consider a daily disposable contact lens which would be worn for playing sport and then thrown away once removed.

Parents or Children can handle the lenses (depending on child's age and ability).

As for all contact lens trial appointments, the child must have an up-to-date spectacle prescription.

The Optometrist would then check the health of the eyes and chat to both the child and their parent/guardian and guage suitability. If we thought that it was appropriate then we could proceed with a Contact Lens fitting appointment.
