Séamus, graduated from the University of Ulster in 2007 and relocated to England for his pre-registration year with Vision Express in Gateshead. He returned to Northern Ireland the next year and served as a mobile optometrist for Vision Express until July 2010. Subsequently, he joined Scrivens in Oxfordshire until May 2013, after which he transitioned to Boots Opticians. At Boots, he held roles from May 2013 to March 2019, including supervising Pre-Reg Optometrists, acting as interim Manager, and being part of the Boots Professional Services team for three years. Driven by a profound desire to return home, Séamus, alongside his wife Dearbháil, acquired Masterson Opticians in April 2019, embarking on the thrilling venture of business ownership. His professional contributions have led to his appointment on the BSO Ophthalmic Committee, representing the Southern Trust.
In his (very limited) spare time, Séamus enjoys spending time with his children and showing them around his parents’ farm. He has a keen interest in rare breed animals.
Dearbháil graduated from the University of Ulster in 2007 and completed her pre-registration year at Essex County Hospital in Colchester. After qualifying in 2008, she relocated to Oxford to join the Oxford Eye Hospital, where she remained until March 2019. During her time in Oxford, Dearbháil earned her Independent Prescribing qualification, obtained a Professional Certificate in Glaucoma, and received a City & Guilds Certificate in Diabetic Retinopathy. Alongside her work in Masterson Opticians she currently holds a position with the Belfast Trust, working in both the Regional Cataract Clinic in Dungannon and the Glaucoma Service In Belfast.
Dearbháil, along with Séamus, welcomed the opportunity to move back home to be nearer to family. In her free time, she enjoys time with their children and dedicates time to volunteer at the local GAA club.
Niamh graduated from Ulster Universtiy with a First Class Honors Degree in Optometry. As part of the Scheme for Registration she will complete her Pre-registration with us in Masterson Opticians. Throughout this year Niamh will examine patients and attend assessments throughout the year. In between working and studying, Niamh is a keen Ladies Football player, regularly making the trip home to play for her club Clann Na nGael in Tyrone.
Meet Sarah, our dedicated Optical Assistant. When she is not assisting patients with their eyewear needs, Sarah loves to spend her spare time reading and travelling. With a Masters Degree in International Relations, she brings a unique perspective to our team.
Kate is the latest addition to our team. Her cheerful demeanor and warm smile make everyone who visits Masterson Opticians feel welcomed. With over 20 years of experience in optics, Kate brings a vast array of knowledge and expertise. Outside of assisting patients in selecting their ideal eyewear, she enjoys walking and immersing herself in a great book during her free time. Remarkably, Kate has participated in the "Race for Life" for 14 consecutive years, contributing significantly to Cancer Research fundraising. We are delighted to welcome Kate to our team.
Amy, originally from North Wales, has settled in Hilltown with her boyfriend. She works part-time with us as an Optical Assistant. Amy is in her final year studying Optometry at Ulster University's Coleraine Campus. Amy will continue to work at the weekend and during university breaks.
Fiona serves as a regular locum Optometrist at the Practice. Her extensive experience spans various aspects of optometry, including private practice, hospital optometry at Altnagelvin Hospital, and a role as an Optometric Advisor for the Health Board. Her vast knowledge makes her an invaluable regular locum and a key member of our team.
Ciara works with us on Wednesdays and Thursdays. She has been a qualified Hearing Aid Audiologist in the Private Sector since 2014. She began her career in the optical field and quickly became fascinated with audiology and the opportunity it afforded her to make a real difference in peoples lives. Her main focus is ensuring she offers each client the highest level of care suited to their individual needs. Her commitment to consistent delivery of high standards are reflected in her selection to perform the Clinical Leadership role in several businesses over the years. Ciara has experience of working with many different hearing aid manufacturers; this in depth knowledge enables her to deliver the results that each of her clients need. Ciara really enjoys her career and tries to learn something new every day, taking her greatest joy from helping people.
